MySpace Opensocial Applications?

MySpace was seen in the Campfire One video, so where's the MySpace Sandbox?

Here's another Opensocial mystery for you: Where are all the MySpace Opensocial Applications? The simple answer: they don't exist yet.

Truth be told, we haven't heard so much as a peep from MySpace since the Opensocial beta release. No dev sandbox, no apps running on MySpace, simple as that... for now at least.

The good news is that as soon as MySpace implements the Opensocial API, most current Opensocial Apps (including our opensocial applications) should run just fine. (So no need to worry.)

Looking back to the initial press release, there seems to be a clue that MySpace doesn't intend to provide a testing sandbox:

"Starting tonight, developers can start writing applications for OpenSocial at http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial which the MySpace Platform will support at launch."

Sounds like MySpace intends to implement Opensocial after it's fully baked. Of course that's pure speculation on our part, we'll just have to wait and see. Until then, Orkut, Hi5, and Ning all have Sandboxes up and running.

Ning allows any user to add Opensocial Widgets to their profile only if the moderator of the network has allowed this. The problem is that Ning doesn't currently support persistent data, so many apps may not work.

When all is said and done, the best online testing interface is Google's Orkut Sandbox, but you'll need to wait for account access from Google.

Update: MySpace has announced that they will open their doors to more outside developers starting next month (02/08). While there was no specific mention of Opensocial, MySpace has previously announced that they will support Opensocial.

At the moment, you can sign up for further information by using this Myspace Developer Application.

It's curious that MySpace has decided to release 'their own' developer platform, especially after coming out to support Opensocial at Campfire 1.
